Hartera is actually a local term designating the ex paper factory, one of the biggest in Europe
that had successfully existed for over than 150 years and then financially collapsed in the beginning of this century.
Hartera Festival project has been set in motion with a clear goal of transforming the ex factory capacities
into public space for cultural purposes.
Although situated in the strict city centre (10 minutes walk from the main city streets); Hartera position,
deep in the Rječina river canyon, allows its visitors to party from 20PM till 6AM which is rarely the occasion
on city festivals both in this region and in Europe.

Hartera Hotel is really an ironically coined term defining another new industrial complex with many extra festival contents.
It has been initiated through the search for the space in which the Hartera Festival camp could be settled.
The big room thus consists of the camp and the relaxing separate spaces with the third festival electronic stage.
The old computers museum Peek&Poke - one of the three old-timer computer museums in the entire world allows you to use the old computers thus recalling the pioneer days of the computer revolution. Nearby presscenter also functions as the internet corner throughout the day.
Electro Sanctuary is settled in a remote tunnel resembling the monastery walls. Here the numerous visualizations and the original music are joining all the major World religions thus creating the unique ambient for relaxing and contemplation.
The bathroom is actually a shower capacity for the camp guests settled on a boulder beach in the river bed of the Rječina river on the exact position of the border pier once separating Italy from Yugoslavia. The guests of Hartera can enjoy the showering in an incredible ambiance inside the former industrial complex from 19th century right by the fresh drinkable water spring.
All Hartera Hotel elements have been created through recycling of various types of materials - massive waist and several tones of sea wood brought from Istrian beach Tunarica.
Hartera Hotel is yet another contribution on raising the awareness of the unique venues in the complex of the ex paper factory.

The results are quite impressive: 4 musical Hartera festivals have been held so far, number of presentations depicting the revitalization process took place on numerous architectural conventions throughout the Europe, not to mention many multimedia events, solo concerts and even 4 theatre shows.
The crown of it all is the outlining of the Croatian Pavilion for the needs and purposes of the Architecture World Biennale in Venice 2006. that took place in Hartera thus presenting the Hartera revitalization process to some of the best World architectural experts .
Hartera, a complex that has been absolutely abandoned for the previous 10 years has now through these projects been visited by more than 30 000 people.
These efforts and results that followed have been awarded by numerous formal and informal prizes.
Hartera is also the only Croatian musical event honored to be the official friend of the Exit Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia and this years Hartera visual identity has been granted with "the design of the month" award for April 2009. by the Croatian board of designers.
Let's continue in the same spirit.
